RUTLAND AREA
PREVENTION COALITION

The Rutland Area Prevention Coalition works with schools, civic and community organizations, businesses, clergy and congregations, and all interested individuals throughout Rutland County to provide education, support and resources for the prevention of alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse.

Educational Presentations and Support:

  • Substance Abuse Prevention
  • Asset Development and Resiliency
  • Peer Refusal Skills
  • Quarterly Community Meetings
  • School Dialogue Night Support
  • Up-to-date Information on Specific Substances

Media Campaigns:
Comprehensive, original radio, cable TV and newspaper advertising about topics such as the effects of drinking and driving; the cost of hosting underage drinking parties; the chemicals in cigarettes, prom and graduation safety; and the benefits of mentoring.

Rutland County Youth Council:
The RCYC is a group of teen leaders "working together to provide resources, support and encouragement to create a peaceful, tolerant and healthy environment for teens by empowering them to develop positive activities that instill a lasting respect for diversity," primarily through media, by producing and starring in commercials promoting substance-free living; and Youth Initiated Grants, by which RCYC members review proposals and determine how to distribute monies to fund local youth-oriented projects and events.

Education and Wellness Center:
In collaboration with the Healthy Youth Resource Network and RAP, the Education and Wellness Center provides training and resource materials--videos, books, tapes, brochures and posters--on substance abuse prevention, stress management, and other health and prevention topics.

Publications:
RAP publishes Reaching Youth Today, a quarterly newsletter for the community with the latest national and local news in substance abuse prevention and youth development. On behalf of the local tobacco Education and Prevention Coalition (TEPCO), RAP also produces the bi-monthly Tobacco News.

Rutland Regional Partnership for Family Services (RRPFS)
RRPFS is a dynamic collaboration of community members, organizations, and government representatives working to create greater well being within the 28 communities in and around Rutland County.

RRPFS's mission is to promote the well being of all children, families, and individuals living in and around Rutland County by developing and strengthening a comprehensive, accessible, community-based system of support and services that reflects the needs and assets of the community.
